Cotton Hollow

This painting is from an original photo taken at Glastonbury's Cotton Hollow. This park is a local swimming hole where residents can swim in the river in the privacy of the woods. Living in suburbia this place was a gem, a secret place to connect with nature. Through this painting I tried to capture the tranquility this unique spot provided.

Ryan concerns my younger brother.  My brother was a mysterious teenager, coming and going all the time while keeping his thoughts and feelings very close to the chest.  He is shown here quietly defiant of queries such as "how was your day?" The choice of color, faded backdrop and tinfoil hat accessory come together as a comment on the walls we build between ourselves and others and how it can be difficult to maintain relationships while one party is unwilling.
